The story of Toyota Australia
Commissioned to honour the history of car manufacturing in Australia and gifted to all manufacturing employees, Shifting Gears was launched after the last Australian-manufactured Toyota rolled off the line. It is a collection of stories from the factory floor to the boardroom that marks the closure of Australian manufacturing while looking to what the future holds for Toyota in Australia.
Using stories gathered from 75 interviews, Shifting Gears tells the story of the past, present and future of Toyota in Australia.
Hyphen crafted a book that was structured as an extended timeline, containing more than 300 images and punctuated by 75 stand-alone interviews.
The book was a gift to Toyota staff as a part of the company’s respectful transition away from Australian manufacturing.
